Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Thus. 1st English edition. xvi, 202pp. Half bound in leather over marbled boards. 12 mo. Boards, particularly the leather, is very worn, scuffed on edges, marked and backstrip absent, with front board partially loose. Front hinge cracked, heavy spotting on prelims and last few leaves. Bookplate of A E Morgan on front paste down and that of Thomas Brushfield on the rear paste down (likely Thomas Nadauld Brushfield (1828 -1910), the English alienist and antiquarian who was an expert in the care and treatment of lunatics and on the life of Sir Walter Ralegh). This is one of Herr Bjornson's finest works, here translated into English for the first time. In its original, it attained wide circulation throughout Northern Europe and is generally recognised as one of the truest and most beautiful representatives of Norwegian life. An hard to find edition of an important work of Scandinavian interest.
