Tra i miti della società contemporanea quello del seno femminile è uno dei più discutibili e di fatto discussi. Fra le immagini del catalogo vi sono fotografie savie, ma anche fotografie pazze e provocatorie che stimolano lo spirito di osservazione e favoriscono la riflessione. Fotografie comunque coinvolgenti, che ci insegnano a vedere ciò che guardiamo. Considerando che molte fotografie sul seno indugiano volentieri sul nudo estetico, questo volume si sofferma invece sul seno velato, che maggiormente stimola l'immaginazione. Il seno non si presta a facili semplificazioni. Anche quando si vogliono analizzare singolarmente i suoi principali elementi distintivi (forma, funzione, simbolo, .) ci si imbatte in rinvii sia sociali (etnici, culturali, .) che individuali (morali, intellettuali, .). Per quanto le fotografie proposte siano nell'insieme singolari, talora sorprendenti e dotate di un loro linguaggio autonomo, alcune di esse sono state accostate alla letteratura e alla saggistica. Una scelta soggettiva nella convinzione che l'alleanza tra arte e pensiero facilitino una visione d'insieme. Nel corpo della donna, che l'uomo desidera impulsivamente con lo spirito non meno che con i sensi, si manifesta l'amarezza dell'inappagato, di ciò che sembra raggiunto e si rivela irraggiungibile, di ciò che è attuale proprio perché trascorso o solo intravisto.
