The contents include a color illustrated frontispiece "Total Eclipse of the Sun, Aug. 7th, 1849" as well as numerous technical diagrams. A chip at the spine head and 1" paper separation on the front paste down. The binding still remains tight and bright. Small format (6 3/4" X 4 1/2"). This copy is from a 19th Century private lending institution, the Mercantile Library of New York City. There are no external indications of the library's ownership. A handwritten number and Mercantile Library stamp are on the title page and some of the internal pages.
