FINE COPY of the first translation into French of the Apophtegmata collected from Plutarch, Diogenese Laertes, and other classical authors. Perrot d'Ablancourt's translation of these and other works helped form a classical taste in the mid-17th century and influenced French prose style. Hoffmann Greek, III, 217. Nicolas Perrot d'Ablancourt, born in Châlons-sur-Marne (Marne), 15-04-1606. Died in Paris, 17-11-1664. He was a translator from Latin, Greek and Spanish.
