Later (late-eighteenth century) full-calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, contrasting title / volume labels to second and third panels, volute corner pieces and central lozenge shaped tool to remaining panels, gilt flower head frame to covers, all edges marbled with blue paste endpapers. Chipped to head of spines, corners bumped and worn, volume label of volume one is chipped with loss. Pages slightly browned, but clean and fairly bright. Previous owners name to title and first page of text. Additional engraved title. Dibdin notes that "this is a very elegant and desirable edition . Copies of it are scarce and in request . the printed title to some copies is dated 1691" (Dibdin II:348, 4th ed)) The title in this copy is dated 1690. The second printing of the Greek text, after the 1589 editio princeps. Parallel Latin / Greek text Size: 8vo.

Volume: 1 19,5x11 cm., legatura in piena pergamena, titolo manoscritto sul dorso, pp. (20) 832 (40), testo su due colonne, latino-greco, in frontespizio incisione di una figura agricola con aratro e buoi e la scritta''Spes Alit Agricola''; capilettera, finalini, buoni margini, carta ancora forte e ben conservata, impaginazione-numerazione errata da p. 513 a p. 530; normali segni del tempo, soprattutto in esterno, manca la prima pagina bianca, allentamento interno dorso e segni di lacerazione al retro piatti, annotazioni in penna in frontespizio e in ultima pagina bianca, normali segni d'uso e tempo, buone condizioni. Polieno, scrittore greco antico, dedica questa sua opera di strategia militare a due Imperatori romani Marco Aurelio e Livio Vero impegnati nella guerra romano-partiana del 161-166.
