Bound in Wellington blue buckram hardboards, with crisp blind-stamped pattern to the front boards and with gilt-stamped lettering to the spines. Unbumped spine heads and tails, and with sharp corners. The bindings are quite clean; a tiny, trivial gray blemish to the front board of Vol. IX. Text blocks firmly bound in. Vol. IV with x and 1446-1807 pp. Matte paper. With intermittent B&W text figures of ceramics details, Figures 518-579. Vol. IX with ix and 555-811 pp. heavy-duty glossy paper. With approximately 57 plates in color, almost all full-page, and with scores of additional B&W plates. Both volumes with immensely clean interiors. Almost certainly unread. A Near Fine two-volume set. Scarce in any condition. 9 lbs. weight. The entire Survey first published by Oxford University Press in 1938-39 in six volumes, including texts and plates.

It is bound in publisher's quarter simulated leather over cloth-covered boards. The binding is sturdy and clean, the corners are sharp, with a 5/8-inch scuff at the foot of its front panel and minor chipping at the head of its spine. Internally it is as new, the text unmarked and attractive, the plates bright. Laid in is an offprint from volume XV inscribed "to Kei / J" (perhaps Jay Gluck, the editor of that volume). 2060 grams.
