Colour lithographic film poster, 79.8 x 56.4 cms, archivally laid down on linen, in very good bright, unmarked condition. A striking French promotional movie poster for the Jungle Book featuring the young Indian actor Sabu as Mowgli surrounded by his jungle companions. The film was released in 1942 and was directed by Zoltan Korda (his first Hollywood film) and filmed in California. Sabu was an ideal realization of Mowgli, an Indian boy who is raised by wolves, threatened by the tiger Shere Khan, and protected by the black panther Bagheera. The exceptionally bold poster design was a hallmark of Paris printing company Richier Laugier who produced high-quality lithographic posters, often featuring vibrant Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles. Active primarily in the 1930s to 1950s, the firm collaborated with notable artists and designers, producing works that have since become bywords for vintage French graphic design.
