Nice Firm Clean copy ! Size: 8vo. George F. Sweetman Printer, White Plains, NY. Eva Mae Potts was born in a little white farmhouse in Cheverie, Hants County, Nova Scotia. Her earliest memories are centered around a rag doll, or swinging in the old rope swing beneath the cedar trees and looking up at the blue sky above while the ocean rolled in nearby. Or watching the sunsets where they seemed to dip into the ocean behind Cape Blomidon. It was there she saw a vision of God's great beauty in poetry and began to write at the early age of twelve. Through her young girlhood she wrote many poems, among her first being The White Farm House and The Old Wood-box which are published in this book. In 1915, when she was twenty she married John Mervyn Rose of Urbania, Nova Scotia. Together they went to live in Vancouver, British Columbia, where on June 30, 1916 (only six months after her marriage) Mr. Rose was killed in a logging accident. She then returned to her old home in Nova Scotia where on December 10, 1916 her son Mervyn Lawson was born. The next three years were not easy ones - they were filled with sorrow, suffering, and ill-health, but she continued with her writing and at that time wrote Why I Am a Widow which is also published in this book. In 1919 she came to the United States where after spending some time in Boston, he went to Florida. There she completely regained her health. A few year later in 1925 she married William H. Potts, a noted golf professional. It was then she brought her son Mervyn Lawson to the United States. She then had many happy years of married life until Mr. Potts passed away in 1943. Mrs. Potts and her son now reside in Westchester County, New York. Her love for poetry has deepened with the years - writing it from her own experiences, her sufferings, her blessings and her deep christian faith, expressing her convictions in her own way in verse.
