L'esemplare è molto bello sebbene alcuni fascicoli (A4, C4, L4, M4, N4, O4, Ss4) rechino bruniture a causa del diverso tipo di carta impiegato. With title page and 15 full-page chalcographic illustrations included in the booklet (there is also a portrait of the author) drawn and engraved by Camas, Bloemaert, Magalotti, Greuter, Fabio della Cormia, Massimi, and influenced by Nicolas Poussin. Half-title at leaf ? 1r: Documents of love. First edition. David Freedberg has studied the role of Poussin in the illustrations of this book and attributes to him - in addition to the portrait of the author signed Nic. Pucci - also the drawing of the one on page 357 and the one on page 91 (both officially signed by Camillo Massimi). Splendid baroque book. Cicognara, 1985. Sur les conseils de Carlo Maratta et de Ciro Ferri, il substitua à sa tec…hnique première une manière à la fois souple et hardie, une expression pittoresque et originale qui devait le placer parmi les graveurs les plus fâmeux. Il fut ainsi nommé graveur et pensionnaire du roi et fut par excellence le graveur de Le Brun''. (in Bénézit). ''Audran se distingua en ce qu'il ne considère pas la gravure comme une sorte de reproduction sommaire, rapidement exécutée, mais bien comme une technique d'art particulière, qui doit être l'objet d'une étude sérieuses, et qui demande une pratique longue et des soins minutieux''. (in Lieure). ''Si Colbert a consolidé le patrimoine de la gravure française, Audran a constitué le fond de réserve sur lequel les graveurs du XVIIIème siècle ont vécu.'' (in Courboin).
