Il faut féliciter Me Elisabeth Pradez d'avoir eu la patience de l'écrire, car il représente certainement plusieurs années de travail et de recherches. Faire un dictionnaire de gallicismes peut paraître à première vue assez facile. Il est aisé en effet de dresser une liste alphabéti- que plus ou moins complète de ces derniers. Ce qui ne l'est pas, c'est de donner pour chacun d'eux la traduction exacte en allemand et en anglais, d'en indiquer le sens précis, d'en montrer l'applica- tion dans des phrases courtes et expressives. Bien des gens auraient reculé devant cette tâche ardue; M Pradez a eu le grand mérite 'de la mener à bonne fin. Ce qui me frappe d'abord dans son ouvrage, c'est l'abondance des expressions idiomatiques qu'elle a su recueillir. Par-ci, par-lå, on trouverait bien quelques lacunes dans sa liste. Ainsi, à la page 73, où l'auteur explique l'expression: Condamner une porte, elle aurait dû, me semble-t-il, indiquer l'autre gallicisme, très usité en France, Condamner sa porte, qui n'a certainement pas le même sens. De même, à la page 106, au gallicisme: Enfoncer une porte ouverte, elle eût pu donner l'acception: Faire un effort pour surmonter un obstacle purement imaginaire.
