However, the traditional East Asian medium does not show Far Eastern calligraphy or ink painting. Rather, the tracks are printed with 78 photographs by Ernst Scheidegger, which he took of the artist and his work during his friendship with Alberto Giacometti that lasted more than twenty years. The rolls can be stored in four handy boxes and travel across the People's Republic of China. The show made its first stop in Shanghai in December 2000, before coming to an end in Beijing in May of this year after 16 stops in large and small cities. The Chinese captions for the photographs from Scheidegger's Giacometti treasure trove were written by Huang Qi, initiator and curator of the exhibition.
