Parmi ces gaz, le CO2 est la principale source de l'effet de serre et du réchauffement de la planète. Le réchauffement de la planète est la grande alerte pour notre climat. Il est temps de passer des ressources non renouvelables aux sources renouvelables comme la biomasse, le biogaz et l'énergie solaire pour la production de chaleur et d'électricité. La biomasse est issue de toutes les matières vivantes. Son utilisation à des fins énergétiques est neutre en termes de carbone et elle est distribuée de manière homogène en grandes quantités partout dans le monde. C'est une ressource respectueuse de l'environnement car elle stabilise le cycle du carbone dans la nature. La biomasse que l'on trouve dans la nature est excessivement humide et de taille irrégulière, ce qui la rend difficile à transporter et à introduire directement dans l'unité de conversion. Il est donc nécessaire de traiter la biomasse et de la préparer correctement avant de l'introduire dans le gazéificateur pour la production de gaz combustible.
