Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is a UK first edition hardcover published by E. Power (Whitechapel Street) in 1844. The photos show the condition better than I can describe, however overall I am grading the book as Very Good condition for its age. The book has a straight spine with firm corners and a chip from the top of the spine. The binding appears to be leather because it has a flap that forms part of the front boards, which overlaps like an envelope to keep the interior text protected. The interior sees grubby end papers and title page but the interior text is clean with the odd mark that does not prevent you from reading any of the text. The title page confirms the publication in 1844 and states "Approved 7th day of March, 1844." There are no comparable copies online but I think it's safe to assume this is a first printing. A fascinating insight into the prison service over 170 years ago.
