Pictorial card covers; endpapers a little tanned in the gutter; light pencil annotations on the title page and a few other pages; an excellent copy. Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. ADAMS, Elinor Proby (1885-1945). Portrait of a young woman, possibly a self-portrait study. [c.1915-1920.] Original pencil drawing on cream card (200 × 130 mm), signed E. Proby Adams lower right. Light surface foxing and faint handling marks, a few small dirt spots, the reverse with some toning, otherwise very good. A pencil portrait drawing by Elinor Proby Adams, painter, illustrator and art critic. Trained at the Slade School of Fine Art, Adams exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Society of Women Artists and contributed regularly to The Queen and The Studio as an art writer. The confident line, frontal pose and clear signature suggest this may be a self-portrait executed during her early professional years. A portrait drawing of this quality in Adam's hand is a scarce survival. Signed by Author(s).
