'EIReDA 1998 is the third edition of a reliability data bank providing reference data to engineers preparing safety studies for power plants and other industrial installations. The data bank comprises estimates of reliability parameters, failure rates and pr…obabilities of failure, for 133 equipment as pumps, tanks, valves, motors, sensors, etc. Estimates were based on operation and failure data collected form 1978 to 1995 in nuclear power plants operated by Electricite de France. Estimates were derived by using Bayesian methodology; priors were estimated from operational experience from 1978 to 1987 and updated on the basis of data collected in 34 EdF units of power 900 MWe in the period 1988-1993. Also given are estimates obtained from data collected in two EdF units during 1995. The above estimates are compared with data compiled from other sources; other power plants, EuReData and ESReDA project reports and publications, and modern petrochemical and processing plants. The data bank comprises mechanical and electrical equipment, automatisms and protection systems and main sensors. Engineering and operational characteristics, and the maintenance policy to which components are submitted, a description of the sample from which estimates were calculated, a color photograph and a general drawing and the boundaries of each equipment are given. A methodological appendix on estimation of reliability parameters is included. A reference data bank for Probabilistic Risk Assessment, Reliability Centered Maintenance and new design and plant life extension studies.'.
