Rare publication published in German, French, English, Spanish and Russian. The introduction of this 1915 publication focuses on the efforts of the German Reich during World War I to house and care for some 1.5 million prisoners of war. The text underlines the considerable economic and organizational efforts required to provide shelter, food, clothing, and medical care for these prisoners, while at the same time the country was engaged in a large-scale war effort. This publication serves as a visual and textual documentation of the conditions within German prisoner-of-war camps during World War I. Comprising approximately 250 authentic photographs, the book provides a comprehensive portrayal of the daily lives, treatment, and environments of Allied POWs held in Germany.
