Condition: Very good condition. An undated letter by Samuel Prout, English water color painter, thanking Mr. North for the "handsome present of game, a pheasant & a pair of partridge". Prout was a contributor to 'Beauties of England and Wales' (1803-1813) and made a series of continental street scenes, to great acclaim. Prout also engraved numerous prints of Australia, before, during and after the gold rushes. Signed "very faithfully yrs, S Prout. 4 1/2 x 7".

A wonderfully illustrated annual, written at a time when poetic annuals were very popular among the middle class, most particularly with women.This annual looks at the continent, and contains poems on travelling. Illustrated by British watercolourist, Samuel Prout, with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and eleven plates. Collated, complete. Edited by William Kennedy.Bound by Remnant & Edmonds in full morocco, with a binders blindstamp to the rear endpaper. Bound by Remnant & Edmonds in full morocco. Externally, very good, with light rubbing to the extremities and joints. A little fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Samuel Prout (17831852) was a British watercolourist, and one of the masters of watercolour architectural painting. Prout secured the position of Painter in Water-Colours in Ordinary to King George IV in 1829 and afterwards to Queen Victoria. John Ruskin, whose work often emulated Prout's, wrote in 1844, Sometimes I tire of Turner, but never of Prout. Prout is often compared to his contemporaries; Turner, Gainsborough, Constable and Ruskin, whom he taught.
