Heavy wear too the top and bottom of the spine ends. Wear at the corners. With some leaching to the cloth (2" x 2") on the left top corner of the rear panel. Discrete bookplate on the front paste-down. With 19 illustrations plus 4 pages of publisher's ads in the rear. Some light chipping and tears to the top edges of the frontispiece. Front signature separating. Slight musty smell. First Edition with matching dates of 1888 on the title and copyright pages.

Includes the long frontis foldout in very good condition with a few extra folds and wear to the far outer margin. Green cloth with a rather odd front cover label of mirror image skull and crossbones (reminiscent of the colonial period skull and crossbones symbol used to protest the Stamp Act), 106 pages. Covers worn at the extremities with few pinholes to the joints, text block sound, pages uniformly lightly foxed, front free endpaper removed, name of F. H. Curtis on preliminary blank, no other markings. Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
