COMPANION TO THE REVISED VERSION OF THE NEW TESTAMENTThe Enhanced 1881 Historic EditionThe Authorized Bible Revision that History Erased Today's readers have been blinded to the scholarly books written about the Revised Version (RV)-the one and only authorized revision of the King James Bible. A corporate publisher's rebranding campaign hid the existence of the true "AV 2" from the public. Because of the blackout, few know about the massive Bible Rush of May 1881. When Oxford released the Revised New Testament, the public demand raged so fiercely that publishers executed the longest telegraph transmission in history to print the text in two major American newspapers the very next morning. (explained in the untold story inside the new historical essay, The Great Bible Rush of 1881)As a member of the English New Testament Company, Alexander Roberts personally explains the precise reasons behind every change made to the Authorized Version. Straight from the translator's desk, this 1881 classic is an indispensable primary source for Bible version scholarship.Unlike the faded, virtually unreadable facsimile scans flooding the market, each page of this historic text is re-typeset from the ground up, making it easy to read: 14-Point Large Print Typography: Crystal-clear Libertine font set on a 7x10 canvas.Restored Scripture Verse Index: The original Index of Texts has been completely rebuilt and mathematically recalibrated to match the modern pagination, allowing you to instantly locate and study specific verse changes. The American Appendix: 25 critical pages containing the exact changes the American Revision Committee demanded. The American committee later fused these precise preferences into the Revised Version - Standard American Edition. The Bible Rush Essay: The true account of the most anticipated Bible release in modern history. The Hidden History RevealedInside, you'll discover the exact reasons behind the revisions, including: The calculated 16th-century manuscript forgery that practically blackmailed Erasmus into inserting a verse into the Greek text that the Apostles never actually wrote (Page 61).The accidental 1611 printing-house typo that millions of readers blindly accepted as the inerrant Word of God for over two centuries (Page 103).How an anonymous, overzealous scribe tampered with a 1,400-year-old manuscript, drawing a dark line in faded ink to physically alter the text of 1 Timothy 3:16 (Page 59).Why the 1611 King James Version uses the fearful word "Hell" twice as often as the original Greek text actually does (Page 161).Why the discovery of 150,000 manuscript variations actually proves the historical purity of the New Testament rather than destroying it (Page 4).A Historic Lineage RestoredThe 1881 Revised Version stands as the Church of England's officially authorized revision of the 1611 King James Bible. The RV is, in the truest sense, "AV 2." The 1900 Standard American Edition represented the final, refined release of that revision by the American Revision Committee. In 2026, the American Revised Version returns. The text reclaims its original "RV" title and true AV lineage. The KJV Heritage Companion Series If you're a textual scholar, a seminary student, or a devoted King James reader seeking the factual history of the English Bible, the volume delivers the ultimate primary evidence. Discover the detailed reasons for the changes made to the Authorized Version, explained by the very scholars who made them. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Only Authorized Revision of the King James New Testament In 1881, the most accomplished biblical scholars of Britain and America completed the first and only formal revision of the King James New Testament ever authorized by the Church of England. Their work was received with unprecedented public demand-millions of copies sold within days, and entire newspapers printing the text by telegraph. Then the text largely disappeared from commercial print. For more than a century, readers have been left with either the unrevised King James tradition or later private translations. The authorized revision itself became nearly impossible to obtain in a clean, modern edition. This volume restores it. Inside this Historic Edition you'll find: The complete 1881 Anglo-American Revised Version New Testament - the only revision of the King James New Testament produced under formal ecclesiastical authorization by a large international body of scholars. The original Revisers' Prefaces of 1881 and 1885, explaining the rules, methods, and purpose of the work.Matthew Brown Riddle's firsthand account - one of the American revisers explains how the Greek text was actually decided, correcting the persistent myth that the revision simply followed Westcott and Hort. The Great Bible Rush of 1881 - the dramatic public reception, including the longest telegraph transmission in history that printed the entire New Testament in the Chicago newspapers. The American Revision Committee's full list of preferred readings, modernized for clarity while preserving the original content.False Friends' Trap - The Reader's Decoder Key - a practical guide to thirty-nine archaic terms that no longer mean what modern readers assume.Commercial publishers preferred editions they could control exclusively. Outside Britain the 1881 text was freely reprintable, offering them no proprietary advantage. At the same time, a false claim took root that the revision was merely an English version of the private Westcott-Hort Greek text. Both factors helped push the authorized revision out of ordinary commercial print. This edition returns the text to readers, together with the principal historical documents that explain how it was made. Set in highly readable type and framed with the original sources, the volume allows you to examine the only authorized update to the King James New Testament on its own terms. 12PT Clarity Font2-ColumnVerse-by-Verse Truth Unredacted Publishing This item is printed on demand. THE SUCCESSION WAS INTERRUPTED.How did the authorized revision of the King James Bible vanish from print? Many readers of the King James Version may assume the 1611 text represents the final, immutable form of the English Bible. But the historical record reveals a hidden chapter. In 1870, the Convocation of Canterbury formally authorized a single, official successor to the KJV. Scholars and linguists labored for over a decade under strict, conservative mandates to deliver an updated masterpiece. The New Testament hit the public in 1881, sparking the greatest, most frantic Bible rush in modern publishing history. Then, the officially authorized text quietly vanished. The Church never revoked ecclesiastical approval. The translators never disowned their work. Yet, squeezed by tight commercial printing monopolies in Great Britain and swept aside by proprietary publishing syndicates in America, the historic 1881 Revised Version fell out of ordinary print and into public obscurity. In The Interrupted Bible, discover the forgotten history of the only formal, Church-authorized update to the King James Version. This fast-reading booklet exposes the precise commercial patterns, fierce criticisms, and systemic neglect that sidelined the 14-year project that created such a monumental text, restoring an essential link in the classic lineage of the revered King James Bible. The authorized revision was not rejected.
