Faint old waterstain to corner of last few pages, very good otherwise. - The author wrote a number of papers on mammals and contributed to the results of the expeditions on this subject. Il est le neveu du naturaliste Augustin Serres, fils de Marie Serres et Pierre Pucheran. Il est conservateur au Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris. Il rédige (avec les naturalistes Jacques Bernard Hombron (1798-1852) et d'Honoré Jacquinot (1815-1887)) la partie consacrée à l'ornithologie dans le compte rendu de la dernière expédition commandée par Jules Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842) : Voyage au Pôle Sud et dans l'Océanie sur les corvettes L'Astrolabe et La Zélée (1841-1854). Son nom a été donné à plusieurs espèces d'oiseaux, comme le Géocoucou de Pucheran, le Grimpar de Pucheran, le Pic de Pucheran ou encore la Pintade de Pucheran. - - - - - Jacques Pucheran (1817 - 1894) was a French zoologist. Pucheran accompanied the expedition on the Astrolabe between 1837 and 1840, under the command of Jules Dumont d'Urville, with fellow-naturalists Jacques Bernard Hombron and Honoré Jacquinot. On his return he contributed the ornithological section (with Jacquinot) of Voyage au Pôle sud et dans l'Océanie sur les corvettes L'Astrolabe et La Zélée (1841-54).

Later boards with facsimile of the volume's title page mounted. = A very rare paper on deer, this being the general introduction, which is all that was published but it includes plates on antlers (uncoloured), and living animals (full colour). The French zoologist Jacques Pucheran (1817-1894) published more on mammals and accompanied the expedition on the Astrolabe (1837 and 1840), under the command of Jules Dumont d'Urville, together with Jacques Bernard Hombron and Honoré Jacquinot. The illustrations, drawn by Werner and engraved by Annedouche, are excellent. Published in the Muséum's Archives, volume 6. Uncut, unopened. Two uncoloured plates are a bit spotted, the others only marginally, a stain in the top gutter and margin, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Nissen ZBI, 3249.

Light, mostly marginal spotting to the text and, slightly, to the plate margins, otherwise a good unmarked copy.
