Illustration shows McVeagh with 'retribution mortar" bricking a wall behind which are faces of Dorsey and Brady "to be bricked up for Star Route Jobbery." Very good copy with small chip along upper margin not affecting text or ruling. In 1881 President James Garfield launched an investigation into the Star Route Scandal in which U.S. postal officials received bribes in return for awarding postal delivery routes in the southern and western areas. Brady and Dorsey were two of the corrupt officials involved. They were both acquitted at trial.
