In less than three years since the first edition of this book was published, the author's continuing close scrutiny of technological literature has produced twice the number of acronyms in the second edition. Mr Pugh's dictionary gained an immediate welcome when it appeared in 1968, and it was reprinted within a year of publication. In this new edition, there has been little excision, since even acronyms no longer in current use continue to appear in reference searches, but the original content has been amended in the light of changes since 1968, and the 5,000 or so new entries have been interfiled in sequence. Once again there is a comprehensive subject index, and it may be confidently claimed that this new, expanded edition will enhance the reputation which the book already has, and will prove of constant value for reference work in technological fields.
