Hardcover. 20p., 4.5x11.25 inches, very good first limited edition [no limitation noted] designed and bound by Shawn P. Wilbur, hand-bound in sewn signatures and decorative weave boards with black cloth backing and paper title labels on spine and both covers. Originally published in Brussels in 1862 and is attributed to the editor of the radical paper "le Prolétaire" A lost classic of early Libertarian writings. The first Italian language monographic supplement to the Bollettino dei Monumenti, Musei e Gallerie Pontificie, dedicated to the Remington muskets donated by the Belgian Catholics to the Vatican in 1870. The study reconstructs the political events that, at that time, involved the Pontifical State, the activities of the diocese of Liegi, and, in particular, the relationship between this and the Holy See, on which depended the choice to donate the armaments to the Noble Guard, as a sign of fidelity and devotion. The events of the history of the donation are retraced: the institution of the list of donors and the numerous subscriptions of believers, the delegation to be dispatched, the arrival in Rome, the 50th anniversary of Pius IX, the meeting with the Minister of Arms, the moment of the gift to the pope. The monograph is enriched by archive photographs showing details of the album of donors, letters, details of the muskets, as well as all the represented coats of arms, each of them identifying a donor person or family, whose names are also inscribed on the musket of membership. The list of donors shows the dedications and the heraldic references of coats of arms, the tables of concordance, as well as the full text of the "Address" accompanying the gift. In the appendix, the nomenclature of the components, with the instructions for use and maintenance of the weapon, and the description of the Remington system.
