Since belief in Singbonga and the Bongas pervades almost all aspects of Ho Life, other books in this series, especially books no. 1,2, and 7, also treat of the spirit world. But this book sums up first for Singbonga and then for the other spirits one by one all aspects of the attitudes and observances of the Hos in regard to each successive spirit. First Mr. Purty treats of SIngbonga, the eternal Creator. Although he himself is pure spirit and invisible to men, he sees them, his children and subjects and therefore Hos pray to him to look upon them and to protect them. In prayers he is often addressed as king (raja). Hos consider Singbonga as benign and especially at times of grief they turn to him in prayer..The greater part of this book deals with the bongas. Hos look upon the bongas as created spirits who at times involve themselves in the life of men.
