Ich werde untersuchen, welche zentralen Motive bei den Aussenaufnahmen verwendet werden und ihre Wiederholung oder Entwicklung innerhalb der einzelnen Filme und im gesamten Spätwerk näher verfolgen. Weiter werde ich die Stimmung in den Aussenaufnahmen mit den benachbarten Innenszenen vergleichen und untersuchen, ob es eine Kontinuität oder einen Wechsel in der Stimmung gibt. Dabei werde ich mein Augenmerk besonders auf die versteckten Gefühle der Figuren richten und Beispiele aufgreifen, bei denen eine Parallele zwischen den menschlichen Gefühlen und der Aussenwelt zu erkennen ist. Nach langem Hin und Her habe ich mich bei Ozus Landschaftsaufnahmen für die Bezeichnung 'Gefühlslandschaften' (jôkei) entschieden, da Ozu manchmal diese Bezeichnung in seinen Drehbüchern verwendete.
