The book was published in 1981 by St. Martin's Press. It is in hardcover format and is the First Edition. The book is now Out of Print - OP. Throughout much of English history, and well into the modern age, it was generally very hard, if no downright impossible, for the average citizen of low income to obtain an official divorce. This created a variety of solutions that are quite shocking, even considering the social environment .
