BOOK CONDITION: near fine. The text block and illustrations are in fine condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. No bookplate or signature of prior owner. Not a library book, but there is a remainder mark on bottom edge. The light blue cloth boards are in very good condition (slight fading along top and bottom edges). The dust jacket is in very good condition (a few small tears along upper edge, shelf rubbing). 11 x 9, 156 pages, 31 ounces. No longer are these clearly and lavishly illustrated items antiques of the future; these are today's prizes, and their present-day prices reflect ever rising values. Some—such as those illustrated in Rogers Brothers' 1857 catalog— are more than 100 years old and clearly bear the marks of the traditional silvermaker's craft. Those of Meriden Britannia (1867) and Derby Silver (1883) reflect the lavish hand of the Victorian designer, first in classical forms and then oriental motifs. Over 800 items are illustrated—tea services, caster sets, pitchers, napkin rings, trays and waiters, epergnes, salts, tureens, card receivers, toilet sets, butter dishes, pickle casters, knife rests.
