Für Quartier ist das Leben als Mönch radikal, und diese Radikalität soll ansteckend sein, auch für Menschen außerhalb des Klosters. Er appelliert: Lasst uns Grenzjäger sein! Klosterleben ist heute nicht mehr gesellschaftlich anerkannt und wird oft als unrealistisch angesehen. Viele Menschen haben von der Tradition gehört, doch kaum jemand zieht diese Lebensform in Betracht. Quartier selbst hat das Klosterleben bis kurz vor seinem Eintritt nie als realistische Option gesehen. Dennoch hat er seit seinem Eintritt keine Stunde als sinnlos empfunden. Es lohnt sich, das Ungewöhnliche zu wagen und sich verstören zu lassen, um neue Lebensbereiche zu entdecken. Radikal leben bedeutet nicht, ausgeflippt oder fanatisch zu sein, sondern sein Leben konsequent von der Wurzel her zu gestalten. Mönche folgen dem radikalen Ruf Gottes ins Kloster, und ihr Leben entspringt dieser einen Wurzel, ohne Ausnahmen oder Freizeit im herkömmlichen Sinne.
