Nota del autor: En la Editorial Joaquín Mortiz surgió la idea de que hiciera este libro dibujándolo sobre el propio libro en blanco. Para ello, Jorge Flores preparó unas maquetas, escogí dos que me acomodaban por su tamaño y la textura del papel, y…me las llevé al viaje que, en ocasiones en forma paralela y en otras incorporado a la comitiva, hice invitado por el Gobierno de México con el Presidente Luis Echeverría y sus acompañantes, del 28 de marzo al 26 de abril de 1973. El libro en blanco lo fui llenando página por página con apuntes de lo que iba viendo en Canadá, Inglaterra, Bélgica, Francia, la Unión Soviética y China, y el resultado final, sin más alteraciones que las que hice a algunos dibujos de las páginas finales para lograr ciertos efectos, es el que aquí se puede ver. Aparte del boceto directo y cuando la rapidez del viaje no me permitía otra cosa, usé para documentarme toda clase de papeles impresos que iba encontrando por el camino, y una cámara "Polaroid". Tal vez los que vean estas líneas no me acusarán de mal dibujante sino de mal fotógrafo. Durante el curso de este trabajo me ayudó con ideas y ánimos mi amigo el escritor Luis Spota. Puedo decir algo para recompensarlo: es un buen compañero de viaje. A. Q.
