The main components of sunscreens, organic and inorganic UV filters, have been detected in many coastal regions, with the highest concentrations in coastal areas under high anthropogenic pressure. Moreover, these compounds have been found to be bioaccumulated in aquatic biota causing biological and toxicological responses; some organic UV filters act as endocrine disruptors in aquatic biota, affecting survival, behavior, growth, development and reproduction. On the other hand, inorganic UV filters, mainly based on nanoparticles, have been demonstrated to have various impacts on marine organisms, such as inducing oxidative stress in abalones, accumulating in microalgae, affecting the immune response in mussels, bleaching corals, and genotoxicity in fish, among others. All these effects of sunscreens on the marine environment highlight the need for more stringent and environmentally friendly regulations. Sin embargo, al entrar en materia nos damos cuenta de que todavía son muchos los puntos a analizar y, sobre todo, actualizar, a tenor de algunas ideas pre- concebidas que, como han demostrado investigaciones recientes, resultan cuestionables. Desde nuestro punto de vista, los postulados empleados a la hora de abordar la correspondencia de la Serenísima con las res- tantes cortes europeas durante el seiscientos en general, y la Mo- narquía Hispánica en particular, pecan de cierto anacronismo. En muchas ocasiones, estas tesis son una prolongación descontex- tualizada del marco europeo de los siglos XV y XVI, sin tener en cuenta las alteraciones que tuvieron lugar en el ámbito de las rela- ciones geopolíticas entre las potencias europeas. Especialmente, a partir de los tratados de paz de Westfalia de 1648. Hasta el fin de la República de San Marcos, esta dicotomía se debió a los intentos por camuflar su decadencia política y co- mercial, a través de la exaltación de su sistema político y de su acción exterior. Ahora bien, el Risorgimento no solo trajo consigo la unificación de Italia, pues también perpetuó, desde una perspecti- va claramente nacionalista, la consideración del sistema guberna- mental veneciano como el modelo ideal de gobierno entre todas las monarquías y repúblicas del Antiguo Régimen.
