Hardcover. Condition: VG+. 1st Edition. (1935). First Edition, v, 378pp. Very light wear, else VG+. Inscribed and signed by the author at the front flyleaf. From the author's preface: "In submitting this work to the public the author wishes to call attention to the fact that while the historical occurrences depicted herein are accurately drawn, the characters, other than those who are historically known, are fictitious; namely, the Marlen family, Senator Gaines, Senator Doles, and Senator Wisten, Senior and Maria Viosca, Honorable Tuero Benhastro, Robert Willman, Mr. Jolton, and Mr. Burke. The administration of Thomas Jefferson, our first Democratic President, has always had a great attraction for the writer, and it is especially interesting now that the political party founded by him has again been called upon by the people of the nation to lead them from the depths of the stifling depression of recent years. In writing this book, the author has applied the name 'Democrat' to the followers of Thomas Jefferson according to the common usage of the present day. It is to be remembered, however, that at the time of its birth, the present Democratic Party was known as the Republican Party.".
