L'analisi chimica di questi oli mediante GC/MS ha rivelato una predominanza di composti monoterpenici. I test tossicologici hanno rivelato il potere insetticida di questi OE contro tre specie di zanzare, con la menta più efficace dell'alloro. I biomarcatori hanno rivelato, da un lato, un effetto neurotossico degli oli essenziali in queste tre specie di zanzare, attraverso l'inibizione dell'attività specifica dell'AChE e, dall'altro, l'induzione del sistema di disintossicazione attraverso un aumento delle GST e una diminuzione del GSH. Inoltre, il trattamento con questi OE ha causato un disturbo nella crescita e nelle riserve energetiche degli individui.
