Light wear to corners and spine ends, faint contemporary note to front free endpaper ("How one life changed an entire community"); a Very Good, internally clean and sound example. Slip signed by the author laid in. The basis for the classic 1946 Christmas film "It's a Wonderful Life" starring Jimmy Stewart and directed by Frank Capra. The premise of the story famously came to Van Doren Stern while he was shaving one day in 1938, though he struggled to complete a first draft for another five years. When he failed to find it a publisher, the author decided to print up 200 copies as a Christmas keepsake for his friends, one of which somehow ended up on the desk of the executive at RKO Radio Pictures. Van Doren Stern related in a 1946 interview that he came home one day to find the telephone ringing. "It was Western Union calling to read me a telegram from Hollywood, announcing that the story had been sold for $10,000." This book edition appeared shortly thereafter, preceding the film adaption by two years. Signed.…
