Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Thirty parts. Quarto, original printed paper wrappers, stitched as issued. Housed together in a custom cloth portfolio. August Raffet's 60 engraved illustrations for Adolphe Thiers' Consulat et l'Empire - a total of 30 portraits and 30 historical or military scenes, each with accompanying leaf of descriptive text- scarce in the original 30 parts and original wrappers. "Vernet, Charlet, Bellangee and Raffet helped to further the Napoleonic tradition in France through their lithographs. Their work was confirmed by a series of books illustrated with engravings on wood and on steel. It seems likely, ineed, that these volumes were more widely influential even than the lithographic albums which had preceded them, since those with wood-engraved designs were published in large editions at low prices. Text in French. One text leaf in part 30 laid in loose. Occasional mild foxing., light soiling to wrappers of several parts. An extremely good copy, scarce complete and in the original parts.
