Original, vintage, black and white, sepia photograph. 140 × 177 mm. Original still from Alexander (Sándor) Korda's 1919 silent drama film "Yamata". Showing Ila Lóth as Ninette and Gábor Rajnay as Yamata on the street, under an ornamented iron gate. The film intended to be a support for the short lived Hungarian Soviet Republic through its story about Yamata the slave, who is mistreated by his master and taken under the wings by a young aristocrat who uses him in more subtle ways and even implicated in a murder. Finally, after Yamata rebels, he got killed. Korda's commitment to the communists, and the apparent political content of "Yamata" and his other movie "Ave Caesar", led to his arrest following the fall of the Soviet régime and after the release the emigration to Vienna and finally to London. The film has not been preserved and we could not find any stills or memorabilia related to the movie, which gives particular value to this photo. [Bibl: Waldman, H.: Missing reels.
