Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Harvey Fuller (illustrator). A Dog of Flanders was written by Ouida (Louisa de la Ramee) and illustrated by Harvey Fuller. The book was published by Albert Whitman & Co. in 1940 and is a stated Fourth Printing. It's not an ex-library copy and the book is in good + condition though there is some scribbling on the last page and the two back end pages. The book is 6" by 8 3/4" with 128 semi-glossy pages with both color and black-and-white illustrations throughout. It looks as if it is written at the third or fourth grade level . . . but I was a math teacher so take that with a grain of salt. Thank you!

Film Agency copy with Beverly Hills Nan Blair Agency bookplate to the front end-paper, end-papers age-toned as usual, slender one-inch long stain to fore-edge of the first few pages, tiny tear to the crown of the spine, slight rubbing to corner tips and to upper and lower spine edges, else very good in red linen with gilt embossed titles and decorations to the spine; no dust jacket. Ouida (1839-1908) wrote more than forty novels, including two that were adapted several times into plays and films: A DOG OF FLANDERS and UNDER TWO FLAGS. This novel was adapted for a 1915 silent film titled THE LITTLE DUTCH GIRL directed by Emile Chautard, and a silent film in 1920 titled TWO LITTLE WOODEN SHOES directed by Sidney Morgan. First set in the Netherlands, it features a foundling girl who grows up poor and sweet, becomes a model for, and enamored with a painter who moves to Belgium. When the girl, Bebee, hears the painter is ill, she walks to Belgium to offer him aid and comfort. Octavo; 322 pages.

Color frontis on glazed paper and numerous full page and smaller images by Frances Brundage. Book consists of the two stories: Rip Van Winkle and The Nurnberg Stove. Book with previous owner name (Dated 1931) and small Christmas label at the front; rubbing to spine bottom/top and tips; several small pink spots on the rear cover. Nice copy. VERY GOOD.
