Al elegirlo entran en juego los más diversos factores de tipo familiar, religioso, político, etc. Y al transmitir el apellido se p…erpetúa una historia que individualiza a la persona por su lugar de origen con inherentes elementos lingüísticos (lengua que se hablaba en el solar originario, tradiciones sociales) e históricos (herencia de inmigraciones pretéritas, etc. ). Otro tanto cabe decir del topónimo. El nombre de lugar se acuñó en un momento determinado y lleva incorporada su propia historia. La evolución fonética que se haya producido con el paso del tiempo dependerá de los pobladores sucesivos que han pasado por allí, la lengua que hablaban, las influencias recibidas, etc. La Sociedad de Estudios Históricos de Navarra se propuso reflexionar sobre el nombre de los navarros y consideró conveniente valorar sus características por comparación con el de otros pueblos de España. Para ello invitó a investigadores de los tres grandes dominios lingüísticos, además del castellano. Y también pareció conveniente cerrar las Jornadas con una ponencia sobre las enseñanzas de la Genealogía. Los comunicantes enriquecieron la planificación inicial con intervenciones que afectan de manera casi general a la mitad septentrional de España. No obstante, el libro es una primera reflexión sobre el estado actual de nuestros conocimientos y de los proyectos y prospectivas de la investigación futura. Es el fruto de estas Primeras Jornadas, cuyo testigo recogerán otros investigadores que obtendrán en el futuro una cosecha mucho más abundante. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente.
