It offers practical instruction ('How-To'), emotional guidance, and advocacy for mother-infant bonding, while addressing challenges of nursing, weaning, diet, and societal attitudes. The foreword by Dr. Herbert Ratner situates the work within the emerging natural childbirth and child-centered parenting movements of the 1950s-70s. Illustrated with line drawings by Joy Sidor. Text block clean and unmarked with faint toning. Interior solid and complete; no writing or markings. A well-preserved, sound example of this historically important parenting manual. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding was collaboratively written by founding members of La Leche League International, established in 1956 by seven mothers in suburban Chicago who sought to revive and normalize breastfeeding practices. Their publication became a cornerstone of maternal self-education, inspiring later editions translated into dozens of languages and continuing as a living text into the 21st century.
