First Edition
Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. 70 pp. Retrospective collection of photographs. The first of a planned series on American cities. This project ended with a companion volume on New York City and Los Angeles. The first and only edition. Published in a limited print run as a stiff card stock softcover original only. There is no hardcover edition of the Boston book, only the second New York volume [also in a slipcase]. The first edition is now rare. Oversize printed format measuring 10 inches by 12 1/2 inches. Artful embossed silver titles on cover & spine, as issued. Essay by Clifford Ackley. Matching white hard board slipcase. A collection of black-and-white photographs of Boston. It is the initial segment of his desire to photograph the entire United States, but he only made it from Boston to New York City. The collection highlights Rauschenberg's approach to photography as his art of combining and discovering the unseen and unexpected from everyday life and making them emerge as something striking to the center of consciousness. His keen photographer's eye is evident in these composed images as well as displayed through his work overall. Very near fine; Unlaminated white wrappers and slipcase is in exceptional condition [except for a light blemish on part of the spine], especially for a 40 plus year old book.
