Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Original colour wraps 14x22cm including front cover, (9)pp colour maps, (4)pp "diary of flight" pages, and (10)pp adverts. Very good with some foxing and rusted staples. The cover features FH Coventry's illustration of Imperial's Short S-23C Empire Class Flying Boat G-AEUD (Cordelia) flying over… an African town. Undated, but Imperial took receipt of this aircraft in October 1937, and it transferred to British Airways in April 1940. A full-page General Map includes routes, termini, and the index of route map sections, showing the course along the Nile from Alexandria to Lake Victoria, across to Mombasa, and finally along the Indian Ocean coast. The route map, approx 1 inch to 80 miles, is divided into 8 full-page sections: 1. Alexandria - Wadi Halfa (via Cairo) / 2. Wadi Halfa - Kosti (via Khartoum) / 3. Kosti - Rejaf (via Malakal) / 4. Rejaf - Kisumu (via Kampala / Port Bell) / 5. Kisumu - Lindi (via Mombasa and Dar es Salaam) / 6. Lindi - Quelimane (showing coastal and inland routes through Mozambique) / 7. Quelimane - Lourenco Marques (via Beira and Inhambane) / 8. Lourenco Marques - Durban (direct and coastal routes shown). Features include air routes and distances, flying boat anchorages, aerodromes, prohibited flying areas, roads, railways, rivers and canals, and frontiers. One advert includes a striking double-page drawing of Imperial's fleet of 31 Short Empire Flying Boats in formation. The others are for Aeroshell, Marconi, Idris, Bristol Engines, Smith's Instruments, and the Park Lane Hotel (5 minutes from Imperial's Terminus at Victoria). Coventry, F.H. (illustrator).
