Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Understanding and Crafting the Mix gives you clear and systematic methods for identifying, evaluating, and shaping the artistic elements in music and audio recording. The exercises throughout help you to develop critical listening and evaluating skills and gain greater control over the quality of your recordings. William Moylan takes an inside look into a range of popular music, including recordings by The Beatles, offering you insights into making meaningful sound judgements during recording. Sample production sequences and descriptions of the recordist's roles as composer, conductor and performer provides you with a clear view of the entire recording process. The foreword has graciously been provided by industry legend Rupert Neve. The book also includes an audio CD featuring exercises, reference materials, examples of mixes and sound qualities, and tracks and instructions for setting up and evaluating playback systems. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Cover photo for Scheherajazz by George Pickow (model not credited) (illustrator). Not books but two 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm, "Stereo Fidelity" vinyl record albums: Scheherajazz, Somerset SF-9700, from 1959, offers near-mint vinyl in a very-good-plus cardboard jacket. Our second LP, "Swingin' With Prince Igor," from 1960, which offers one side adapted from Borodin's Polovtsian Dances from the Prince Igor Suite and the second side adapted from Wagner's "beautifully morose Overture to Tannhauser," Somerset SF-16000, offers very-good-plus vinyl (no problems, just some track wear) in a near mint cardboard jacket. The 28-piece All-Star Jazz Band features Pete Condoli, trumpet, Gus Bivona, sax, Paul Horn on flute and reeds, Vince De Rosa, french horn, etc., under concertmeister Jacques Gasselin. Lloyd Vernon "Skip" Martin (1916-1976) played sax with Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, first arranged for Count Basie. He was the sole credited orchestrator for Judy Garland's comeback vehicle "A Star Is Born" (1954), which contains many arrangements by him of Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin ballads, principally "The Man that Got Away" and "It's a New World." Although both these LPs have been opened, "Swingin' with Prince Igor" retains its original shrink-wrap. The pair now reduced from $22.

Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 4-X-6 inch (10-X-15.5 cm.) ring-bound booklet in black leather (faux leather?) covers circa April, 1943. Interior pages lovely, outer cover "good only." Wilow Run, near Ypsilanti, site of farms where Henry Ford sent delinquent city boys he believed would prosper in a rural environment, became the site of a huge war plant in 1941, initially to manufacture parts for the unwieldy B-24 Liberator bomber, but soon converted to assembly of complete aircraft. Ford had long paid wages so high that his critics constantly warned he must soon go bankrupt, explaining he wanted his workers to be able to buy his cars, but also doubtless because he was adamantly opposed to giving up a share of his management prerogatives to the labor unions. Thus, how the UAW-CIO came to unionize his bomber plant by 1943 makes an interesting tale. (Historian Alwyn Lloyd, in his book about the "Liberator," reports Willow Run, initially set up much like an automobile assembly line, was beset with labor difficulties, high absentee rates, rapid employee turnover, even a massive strike.) But somehow, by August 1944 Willow Run was producing more than 400 B-24s a month -- eventually, working two 9-hour shifts, Willow Run produced 6,972 of a total of 18,482 B-24s built -- plus components for 1,893 more to be assembled elsewhere (though most pilots still preferred the easier-to-handle but lower-capacity B-17.) The hourly wages here generally run $1.10 to $1.40, though cleaners and rubbish handlers were paid 95 cents an hour, while power linemen could make $1.20 to $1.50, machinists and machine repairmen as much as $1.30 to $1.70 -- a strangely flat scale. Grievance procedures are also outlined. 58 pp., reduced from $25.
