This handsomely produced "Register of Who's Who" was published to coincide with Cleveland hosting the 1941 National Baptist Convention. The text includes a directory of Cleveland (and Toledo) African-American merchants, grouped by profession, as well as a list of churches. Articles include "A Word of Welcome, National Baptist Convention" by W.H. McKinney; "Stop Negro Discrimination in our Defense Industries" by Hon. Martin L. Sweeney; "Pastor Charges Abuse of Negro Troops in the South: Letter to Roosevelt Asks Immediate Remedy" by Rev. John Evans; and several articles promoting Rev. J.C. Austin's election as president of the National Baptist Convention. The lower wrap features an ad for white politician Martin L. Sweeney, featuring a half-tone portrait and the text "Elect a Liberal Mayor of Cleveland: Martin L. Sweeney. Cleveland's Outstanding Friend of the Negro Welcomes the Delegates to this Convention" (Sweeney would not be successful in his bid). Danky, *African-American Newspapers and Periodicals: A National Bibliography*, No. 4658. Very uncommon.
