Original wraps. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 8 1/2 X 10 3/4 Inches. Important first run copy of this monumental workshop held at Fisk University in Nashville, TN in late August of 1968. As a result of student protests, sit-ins, strikes and rallies at the time, Fisk University alongside several other Colleges began to examine the study of the Black experience in a way never accomplished before. While San Franciso State became the first College in America with a Black Studies program (1968), the iron was hot from Coast to Coast. Fisk, a historically Black College, followed suit with this study that includes: 1) A general survey and classification of publications and other materials about the Negro in American civilization. 2) An examination of the various approaches for utilizing in the social science curriculum, information and data from the various sources to improve instruction about the Negro. 3) The establishment of criteria to guide the development of courses and programs in Afro-American Studies. 4) The development of an inventory of agencies, institutions, and organizations concerned with Negro life and culture in America. Participants in the workshop came from all across America and included folks from Kansas State, Bowdoin, Berry College, William and Mary, Marquette, Cornell, Saint John's, Wayne State and MTSU among many more. In addition to providing transcripts of the lectures held during the workshop, this book contains the suggested reading list and ease of access for books related to African American History in America. The major accomplishment of this workshop might just be the questions that are asked. While this can be viewed as simply a University publication, it strikes me as a very important tool in understanding the thought process that was going on in shaping what would become an entirely new Collegiate field of study. Original thick wraps with title label to front. From the reference collection at Fisk University with a few associated stamps as would be expected. "0" COPIES LOCATED AT RBH. "3" COPIES LISTED ON OCLC.
