The search for the murderer is conducted in part by the police and partly by the Vice President of Fisher College Sir Richard Cherrington, an eminent but slightly eccentric archaeologist with a penchant for amateur detection. By Dilwyn Rees aka Professor Glyn Edmund Daniel (1914-86), Welsh scientist and archaeologist specialising in the European Neolithic period and who fancied himself as a detective novelist. He was appointed Disney Professor of Archaeology in 1974 and edited the academic journal 'Antiquity' from 1958 to 1985. In addition to early efforts to popularise archaeology and antiquity on radio and television, he edited several popular studies of the field. A scarce book, by a Cambridge insider.
