This book is part of Lovell Reeve's Popular History series designed for young people. All the books measure around 13 x 16.6cm and came in a gilt decorative cloth binding or could be bound to taste. The spine ends are pulled with 3 tiny splits at the top (at the joints and in the middle). Corners are turned. There is the decorative bookplate of Edward Braxton Reynolds, Public Analyst (motto - There was death in the pot) at the front pastdown endpaper. A 24pp publisher's catalogue is tipped in at the front endpapers. Contents with tissue-guarded hand coloured frontispiece and 19 further plates. Plates and text are generally very clean and in very good condition. There is some light toning towards text page edges, particularly at the top edge, and some text pages are unopened.
