This book explores a comprehensive system of shorthand, Dutton's Shorthand, that enables efficient transcription of spoken language, prioritizing sound representation over conventional spellings. The author introduces a series of rules and principles guiding the construction of shorthand outlines, encompassing consonant and vowel representation, prefixes, suffixes, and word-building techniques. The text meticulously details the mechanics of the system, providing ample exercises to reinforce understanding and develop proficiency. Furthermore, the author offers strategies for phrasing and abbreviating words to enhance writing speed. Notably, the system emphasizes the omission of silent letters and the use of distinguishing marks to differentiate between similar sounds, maximizing efficiency without compromising clarity. This book serves as a valuable resource for individuals seeking to master Dutton's Shorthand, empowering them to transcribe speech accurately and swiftly, particularly useful in professional settings requiring rapid note-taking and documentation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Dutton Speedwords, transcribed in Speedwords as Dutton Motez,[1] is an international auxiliary language as well as an abbreviated writing system using the English alphabet for all the languages of the world. It was devised by Reginald J. G. Dutton (1886â?"1970) who initially ran a shorthand college promoting Dutton Shorthand (a geometric script), then offered a mail order (correspondence) self-education course in Speedwords while still supporting the Dutton Shorthand. The business was continued by his daughter Elizabeth after his death. This is a copy of the first edition of this Teach Yourself manual published in 1951. Also included is an enrollment card for the college. The hardback cover is a little worn and discoloured, particularly on the spine. The binding is tight. The pages are unmarked apart from age yellowing and pencil notes on one page.
