EN FRANCAIS. FRENCH TEXT THROUGHOUT. This book has been rebound in cloth boards which are stained and worn. Original spine has been mounted on replacement spine, which looks worn; titles are just legible. Some wear to top and bottom of spine and corners/edges. Joins to new binding are obvious.Text has some foxing, but is otherwise clean and unimpeded. Ilustrations are in b&w with a tissue covering. Of the illustrations title page states "Ouvrage contenant huit portraits graves sur acier d'apres les dessins D'Aug. Sandoz. Nuef gravures sur bois representant divers lieux mentionnes dans les lettres. Trois facsimile d'ecriture et une planche d'armoiries, tiree en cololeurs." Of the Sandoz plates there is a note under each title which states "Dessin de A. Sandoz, d'aprtes nature". Book is not particularly attractive, but the binding feels strong. A good working or reference copy.

No edition stated (hardback). 8vo (27cm by 19cm), xxvii, 501pp. 21 plates (huit portraits graves sur acier d'apres les dessins d'Aug Sandoz, neuf gavures sur bois, trois fac-simile d'ecriture et une planche d'armories, tiree en couleurs). Original red morocco spine, red cloth boards, gilt titling to the spine, all edges gilt. Rubbing to the edges of the binding, foxing to the endpapers and the tissues protecting the plates. Overall, this copy is in good to very good condition.

Frontis, 19 full page engravings (1 colour) Front hinge has been expertly repaired, and the edges are worn and darkened, intereor has some light foxing, condition good to very good Elaborate full red calf prize bindong with gilt borders and bands with gilt compartments to spine and marbled end-papers.
