The dust jacket which had some chipping and wear has been carefully preserved and expertly laid down on colour matched Japanese paper. The dust jacket is now whole and surrounds the book. The book is housed and preserved in a fine custom dark BURGUNDY CLAM SHELLL BOX, with black leather title label. Reiser was the pseudonym for Rudolph Kayser, husband to Einstein's stepdaughter Ilse. Kayser provides a more personal portrait of Einstein's character, insights into his humanitarian views, and early life, rather than focusing exclusively on his scientific achievements. SIGNED by Einstein in 1930, the year of publication [possibly in New York], three years before he renounced his citizenship and emigrated to America where he became Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton. April 1686 in Hamburg) lutherischer Theologe. Nach erstem Privatunterricht und dem Besuch des St. Anna-Gymnasiums in Augsburg studierte R. seit 1646 Theologie an den Universitäten Straßburg, Tübingen und Gießen. An der Universität Altdorf erwarb er am 29. Juni 1651 die Magisterwürde. 1659 übernahm er eine Pfarrstelle in Preßburg. Die konfessionalistische Ausrichtung seines Denkens führte dazu, daß um der Verteidigung der evangelischen Wahrheit willen in den Predigten antikatholische Motive immer stärker hervortraten. Diese Haltung zog R. die Feindschaft einheimischer Kreise zu, so daß er nach weiteren Auseinandersetzungen, unter Verlust seiner Bibliothek, die Stadt verlassen mußte. Zwischenzeitlich wurde er sogar inhaftiert. Ohne spezielle Erlaubnis des Kaisers war es ihm nicht mehr gestattet, nach Ungarn einzureisen. R. kehrte 1672 nach Augsburg zurück und versah hier von 1673 bis 1675 das Amt des Schulrektors und Bibliothekars. Anschließend trat er als Prediger an der Kathedralkirche in Öhringen in hohenlohischen Dienst. Bemühungen um Stellen in Nürnberg und Gotha scheiterten. Eine entscheidende Wendung nahm sein Lebensweg, als er 1678 zum Hauptpastor an St. Jacobi in Hamburg berufen wurde. Er trat das Amt 1679 an und übte es bis zu seinem Tode aus. Auf der Reise nach Hamburg erwarb R. sich von der Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Gießen die Lizentiatenwürde; 1683 wurde er von ihr zudem zum Doktor der Theologie promoviert. R. war zweimal verheiratet. Aus der zweiten Ehe überlebten mehrere Kinder den Vater. Als Theologe steht R. für die erbittert geführten konfessionellen Auseinandersetzungen der Zeit unmittelbar nach dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg. In seinen Predigten und in diversen Veröffentlichungen, die zum Teil unter dem Namen »Reinerus Sionatus Ophtalmopolita« (»Aug«-sburger) erschienen, machte er sich zum Wortführer einer kompromißlosen lutherisch-orthodoxen Dogmatik. Reformierte, Synkretisten, Quäker und vor allem Katholiken wurden durchweg mit äußerster Schärfe angegriffen. Den reformierten Protestanten sprach er das Recht ab, Luther und das Augsburger Bekenntnis für sich in Anspruch zu nehmen. Von theologiegeschichtlicher Bedeutung ist R. wegen seiner Beteiligung an der antiatheistischen Diskussion der frühaufklärerischen protestantischen Theologie des späten siebzehnten und frühen achtzehnten Jahrhunderts. Ähnlich wie Valentin Greissing (1653-1701), mit dem er aber nicht in direkter Verbindung gestanden zu haben scheint, argumentiert R. auf der Ebene eines aristotelisch fundierten Luthertums.
