Original 3/4 bolted cloth over decorative paper covered boards, with embossed lettering and logo on front cover. Striking catalog containing 130 wallpaper samples (including 22 with frieses) showing some of the finest examples of French Art Deco. The samples introduce us to the 1929 collection of Renova, a Paris-based French wallpaper company. They feature bold design patterns (mainly flowery and geometric patterns) with strong vibrant colors (dark green, burgundy, purple, red, yellow, pink, and orange hues). The samples have been color-screen printed, and contain intricate ornaments professionally over-printed often in gold and silver. They measure 16 1/2 x 16 3/4", and have printed captions at verso. Moderate rubbing along edges of binding. Covers somewhat darkened along edges. Title age-toned and slightly darkened along margin. Faint foxing and minor and sporadic smudges to the very first leaves. Text (on inside of front cover) and captions in French. Binding in overall good- to good, interior in very good condition.

The animal man is the human being stripped of illusion seen not through the lens of culture, technology, or self-flattering stories, but as an evolved creature whose roots remain sunk deep in instinct. It is the part of humanity that moves before it thinks, that seeks survival before truth, and that weighs reality not by reasoned evidence but by what keeps it comfortable, dominant, or alive. The animal man is driven by territoriality, desire, hierarchy, and fear traits inherited from a million years of predatory and prey existence.Yet, this figure is not purely savage. The animal man can build, cooperate, and imagine but only insofar as these serve the primal imperatives. Civilization, in this sense, is not the opposite of the animal man but his camouflage: cities are dens, economies are hunting grounds, and politics are dominance rituals played out in tailored suits. To define him is to face the uncomfortable truth: beneath every ideal and invention, we still carry the blueprint of the creature we were before we called ourselves "human."
