1. Potloodschets op tekenpapier. 48 x 59 cm. 2. Ets op groter formaat (52 x 68 cm, beeldformaat 43 x 59 cm), in zwart afgedrukt op keizerlijk Japans papier. Rechtsonder gesigneerd in potlood met toevoeging '3/5'. 3. Ets op groter formaat (52 x 68 cm, beeldformaat 43 x 59 cm), in donkerrood afgedrukt op keizerlijk Japans papier.…Linksonder staat 'Del. AD VIV' (= naar het leven getekend) 'Dr. Willem Royaards.

THE RAAMBRUG IN ROTTERDAM BEFORE THE WAR Drawing in Indian ink and watercolour by Eugène Rensburg (18721956), signed "Eug. Rensburg." Executed circa 19151920. Size: 33.2 × 50.2 cm. This view shows a corner of Rotterdam's old city centre with the St. Lawrence Church in the background. The Raambrug spans the Delftsevaart, seen her…e from the Haagseveer. The street to the right is the Westewagenstraat. The spot where the draught horses stand once housed the company Hoogenraad & Wesselo, a line-boat service operating between Rotterdam and The Hague. Along the quay stand several hand-operated cranes used for unloading inland vessels. Horses wait patiently beside their wagons laden with wooden barrels, while the handcart in the foreground seems purpose-built for transporting casks. On the street corner stands a building once occupied by a coppersmith's workshop, now selling "tinware and household goods." Next door, a sign advertises "Second-Hand Clothes" and lodgings at the Doele Hotel on the first floor. A native of a Rotterdam artist family, Rensburg was celebrated for his precise topographical drawings of South Holland's towns. In this work he captures, with great accuracy and a warm, almost nostalgic tone, the bustling pre-war Rotterdam a city where trade, craftsmanship, and everyday life still met quite literally along the water's edge. Price: Euro 1.250,-.

THE PORT OF ROTTERDAM Drawing in pen and Indian ink with watercolour by Eugène Rensburg (18721956), signed "Eug. Rensburg. 1918." Size: 39.2 × 66 cm. There is bustling activity on the water in the port of Rotterdam. Steam tugboats come and go, towing unmotorised barges to their berths. Large cargo steamers lie at anchor, while a… mooring buoy remains free in the foreground. The city unfolds behind them: to the left the Leuvehaven, the Maaskade with the Boompjes and Oostindisch Huis, and in the distance the towers of the St. Lawrence Church and the Zuiderkerk. With his delicate linework, Rensburg captures the characteristic dynamism of Rotterdam's inner harbour shortly after the First World War. The Leuvehaven, laid out in the 17th century, was still the beating heart of the city's trade and shipping, with quays lined with cranes, warehouses, and shipyards. A native of a Rotterdam artist family, Rensburg was renowned for his precise city views and topographical drawings of South Holland. In this work, he combines documentary accuracy with a light, almost impressionistic atmosphere, making the drawing both a historical document and an artistic evocation of Rotterdam's pre-war harbour life. Price: Euro 1.250,-.
